Job Summary:
The Library Associate provides high-quality customer service to a diverse community of patrons while supporting daily library operations. This position assists with circulation services, basic reference and technology support, and collection maintenance to ensure an organized, welcoming, and resourceful library environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred.
2. Experience: Prior experience in customer service, retail, clerical, or library services preferred.
3. Licenses/Certifications: None required.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provides customer service at the circulation and reference desks, including checking materials in and out, issuing library cards, and managing holds.
- Assists patrons with basic reference inquiries, locating materials, and navigating library resources.
- Provides basic technology support, including assistance with public computers, printing, scanning, and digital library applications.
- Sorts, shelves, and organizes library materials according to established classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal System).
- Assists with processing new materials and maintaining the organization and accuracy of the collection.
- Supports library programming by setting up, assisting with, and cleaning up after events and activities.
- Maintains a clean, orderly, and welcoming library environment and reports facility or safety concerns.
- Interacts with patrons of all ages and backgrounds with professionalism, patience, and courtesy.
- Performs routine administrative and clerical support tasks as assigned.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:
Work is performed in a standard office environment with low to moderate noise level. Subject to sitting for an extended period, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting and putting away such items as records and office supplies of moderate weight of up to 75 pounds. Working with a wide variety of people, experiencing different levels of emotions.
