About the Role:
The Heavy Equipment Operator performs preventative and emergency maintenance on the City’s sanitary sewer system and supports the operation and upkeep of associated equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate heavy equipment to perform maintenance and repairs on the sanitary sewer system
- Conduct preventative maintenance and respond to emergency sewer system issues
- Complete daily work logs, sanitary sewer overflow reports, and required internal and state documentation
- Direct and support the activities of assigned helpers or crew members
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and ensure proper operation
- Follow all safety procedures and regulatory requirements during field operations
- Respond to after-hours calls as part of an on-call rotation

Minimum Qualifications:- High School Diploma/ GED,
- "OR" 3 years of education 4 years of directly related experience operating Heavy Equipment (Combo Cleaning Trucks, Rodder Trucks, etc.)
- Valid Class A Drivers' License with Tanker Endorsement
- Forklift License ("OR" obtain within six months of hire date)
- 1 years of experience operating Heavy Equipment (Combo Cleaning Trucks, Rodder Trucks, etc.)
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- Prior Leadership Experience
- NC AWWA Grade 2 or higher Collections Certification
