In this role, you will:
Shape programs and Initiatives that support the City’s identified goals and priorities, including those highlighted above.
Ensure Greensboro remains a destination for youth sports, recreation, and outdoor experiences, and sports tourism through innovative programming and exceptional facility operations.
Lead with equity, and empathy, motivating and empowering staff and ensuring communities most often underrepresented in recreation spaces have a voice in planning and decision-making.
Guide services at 10 recreation centers, 2 active adult centers, and multiple indoor/outdoor athletic complexes that provide essential year-round programming.

The Community Recreation Services Division Manager oversees one of the City’s most impactful and visible recreation divisions. This position leads more than 60 full-time team members and 200 hourly/seasonal staff and Manages an annual operating budget of $8.5 million. This role blends strategic leadership, operational excellence, and community engagement to ensure programs and facilities are vibrant, inclusive, and high-quality.

Youth and Teen Experiences
Adaptive and Inclusive Recreation
Overseeing year-round facility operations, customer service provisions, scheduling, and performance measures.
- Coordinating division goal setting and evaluation
Guiding short- and long-range planning aligned with the department’s Plan2Play comprehensive plan.
Leading community engagement efforts, public presentations, and interdepartmental coordination.
Strengthening partnerships with schools, nonprofits, community groups, and regional partners to expand services.
Ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Overseeing division-wide processes for training, risk management, accessibility, and emergency preparedness.
Representing the division before the City Manager’s Office, Parks and Recreation Commission, and City Council.
The position reports to the Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation and requires a flexible schedule, including frequent evenings and weekends. The position is service-critical and requires work during inclement weather and availability during emergencies.
This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards
Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor's Degree with 7 to 9 years of progressively responsible experience within Parks and Recreation or a similar field
- Prior supervisory experience(within the past 5 years)
- Prior experience with recreation program coordination, facility management, capital improvements and budgeting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
- Valid North Carolina Driver's License or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master's Degree in Parks & Recreation Management, Public Administration, and/or Business Management
- Certified Park & Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Certified Park & Recreation Executive (CPRE) certification
- Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA)
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO)
- Experience with recreation management software (e.g., RecTrac)
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm; (with frequent evenings and weekends)
