The Greensboro Police Department (GPD) is dedicated to protecting and serving the community through proactive, professional policing. Within GPD, the Special Operations Division supports specialized functions that enhance public safety, traffic control, and operational readiness.

The Parking Enforcement Specialist plays a key role in this division by ensuring compliance with parking regulations and supporting safe traffic flow during daily operations and special events.

This position serves as a visible extension of public safety operations. By enforcing parking ordinances and assisting with traffic control, you help reduce congestion, improve emergency access, and maintain order across the city. Your work directly supports officers, community members, and city operations.

The Parking Enforcement Specialist enforces City parking ordinances and supports Special Operations Division activities related to traffic control and public safety.

• Enforce parking ordinances by monitoring meters and regulated parking areas

• Issue citations and complete required documentation accurately and consistently

• Coordinate vehicle towing in accordance with departmental procedures
• Assist with pre-planned road closures, special events, and traffic control operations
• Operate City vehicles, handheld computers, and communication devices
• Wear and properly utilize a Body Worn Camera (BWC) in compliance with department policy
• Provide professional, respectful interaction with the public while representing the Police Department

• Extensive walking and standing throughout assigned shifts
• Work performed primarily outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions
• Required to wear a department-issued uniform
• May be required to work during inclement weather
• Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, handheld technology, and mobile devices

• Reliable and able to work independently in a field-based environment
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reporting and documentation
• Professional demeanor when interacting with the public in enforcement situations
• Ability to remain composed in high-visibility or occasionally challenging interactions
• Flexible and responsive to changing operational needs, including events and traffic support

This role provides opportunities for advancement within the Greensboro Police Department, including pathways to Senior Parking Enforcement Specialist, Special Operations Coordinator, or other public safety support roles.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School Diploma/GED
  • "Or" No High School Diploma/GED with 5-7 years of experience in parking enforcement operations
• Valid Driver's License
• 1 years of experience in parking enforcement operations
• Experience working outside with weather exposure ranging from mild to heavy
• Must successfully obtain/complete within the first 60 days of employment:
  • Certifications for both NCIC (National Crime Information Center) and DCI (Division of Criminal Information)
  • Completion of a 4-week Parking Specialist Academy
