DEFINITION Under general direction, oversee and ensure safety of patrons involved in aquatic activities. Direct the activities of aquatic staff during operations and perform lifeguard functions in addition to assisting the Recreation Program Supervisor with Water Safety Course and training. Wage is DOE and level of certifications.

Minimum entry wage is $22.53/hour. Maximum wage for this position is $31.40/hour. SUPERVISION The Aquatics Coordinator reports to the assigned Recreation Programs Supervisor(s)

This position exercises direct supervision over part-time lifeguards and water safety instructors. EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The following functions & duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address City needs and changing business practices.

Enforce pool rules and maintain discipline in pool and wet room areas. Perform emergency rescue and first aid as required. Monitor all areas of the pool and wet room area.

Monitor/direct/supervise activities of on-duty lifeguards and water safety instructors. Coordinate with Recreation Program Supervisor to conduct lifeguard/WSI meetings Provide orientation and training for lifeguards and water safety instructors. Coordinate with Recreation Program Supervisor to schedule lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors.

Communicate hazardous conditions to Recreation Program Supervisor and make requests for new equipment. Assist with creating promotional materials for programs and areas of responsibility. Assist with pool and whirlpool water quality; check pool levels, temperature, backwash, vacuum, deck area, locker rooms, sauna, wading pool and swimming pool to ensure proper operation and maintenance.

Maintain a clean and safe environment. Assist all Leisure Programs Division staff with special events. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Knowledge of: Lifeguarding techniques. Supervisory techniques. Ability to: Follow oral and written instructions.

Perform and complete assigned tasks properly and efficiently. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Solve problems fairly and objectively.

Respond to emergencies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Experience, Education & Training: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A two-year college degree in either recreation or a related field is required.

Two (2) years of verifiable aquatic experience at a supervisory level is required. Experience in training, scheduling, and supervising lifeguards and water safety instructors is desirable. Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older due to insurance requirements.

License or Certification: Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license upon employment is required. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, CPRPR certification within first six (6) months of employment is required. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, First Aid certification within first six (6) months of employment is required.

Lifeguard Training certification is required. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Certified Pool Operator within the first year of employment is required. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer certification within the first year of employment is required.

Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification within the first year of employment is required. Possession of a Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification is desirable. Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment: Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, twist, and lift or carry 50 or more lbs.
