Job Summary: The Recreation Coordinator II position is an essential part of the Culture, Parks, and Recreation Department. This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Recreation Center. The Recreation Coordinator II position is directly responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluating part-time employees. This position is responsible for membership promotion and retention, facility rentals, and oversight of drop-in and structured programs and events. This position ensures quality customer service and provides a safe and welcoming environment for all members and guests.

Experience, Knowledge, Skills

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in Recreation, or a related field required.
  • One to three (1-3) years of recreation or special event programming experience.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • Current certification in Community CPR, First Aid and AED or within 3 months of hire

OR

  • any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job.

AND

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Preferred

  • Spanish/English bilingual skills.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of the planning and organization of youth sports instruction and sports safety programs.
  • Skills in recruiting, training, supervising, evaluating, motivating employees.
  • Ability to resolve customer complaints and escalated problems.
  • Ability to react effectively to all potential mental, physical, and stressful situations inherent to the duties of a First Responder.

Essential Functions

Personnel & Fiscal Management

  • Recruits, hires, trains, schedules, supervises, mentors, and evaluates volunteer coaches and part-time staff.
  • Utilizes scheduling software and monitor employee hours in accordance with budget.
  • Conducts trainings for staff and volunteers on a regular basis related to a variety of topics including sport rules, officiating, and risk management. 
  • Develops and mentors volunteers and staff to ensure quality instruction and leadership.
  • Assists in the development of program budgets and ensure expenses align with approved budget.    
  • Develops reports and performance measures in support of Department and Division fiscal goals.
  • Monitors and reports program budgets and ensure cost recovery goals are being met for all programs, sports, and activities.

Program Management

  • Creates, implements, and manages a variety of recreation programs for both youth and adult populations.
  • Develops program team rosters, game schedules, and coordinate field and facility schedules for events and competitions. 
  • Ensures marketing materials, website, and social media sites are updated with accurate information.
  • Negotiates contracts with outside vendors, instructors, and other external groups.
  • Tracks inventory and order supplies and equipment for programs.

Facility and Risk Management

  • Collaborates with Parks staff and ensure all preventative field maintenance and game day preps occurs on a regular basis.
  • Develops and implement risk management procedures for all sports and programs.
  • Develops and implement staff trainings and coordinate needed safety trainings such as CPR, First Aid and AED Trainings.
  • Tracks staff certification records to ensure patron safety including CPR, First Aid, AED Training, and concussion certifications.
  • Monitors field conditions and collaborate with Parks Division to ensure fields/parks are ready for program usage.

Customer Service & Engagement

  • Communicates efficiently and effectively to all program stakeholders through face-to-face, phone and email interactions.
  • Fosters and develop principled relationships with community partners and organizations to grow and market current and future programs.
  • Provides quality customer service through the development of principled relationships with participants, community members and various partnering organizations.

Technology & Assessment

  • Administers surveys and conduct focus groups to gauge participant satisfactions level, gain constructive feedback and foster ideas for new programs and special events.
  • Effectively utilizes programming and scheduling software such as RecTrac, Team Sideline, When2Work, Connect2Concepts, Microsoft office/teams and website.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Organizes and delegates assignments to team members.
  • Hiring, training, motivating and coaching employees.
  • Evaluates employee performance and goal setting.
  • Holds employees accountable for assigned tasks and goals.
  • Provides timely and constructive feedback and training opportunities.
  • Provides training opportunities with a focus on employee development.
  • Resolves conflicts and complaints.
  • Analyzing information and processes and developing more effective or efficient processes.
  • Establishing and achieving business and financial objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with safety procedures.

Work Environment And Physical Requirements

  • Frequent interruptions and heavy public contact.
  • Required to work weekdays, nights, weekends, evenings and some holidays.
  • Work is performed in an office environment, on sports fields and within recreation facilities.  
  • Strength and stamina enough to walk, stand, stretch, bend, lift or carry up to 49 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity enough to complete daily work such as operate computer keyboards, drive and operate motor vehicles, and operate other office equipment and complete paperwork.
  • May be required to assist individuals loading and unloading from vans.
