The City of Grants Pass is seeking an experienced and dynamic Fleet Superintendent to lead and manage the City’s Fleet Services Division. This critical role oversees the full lifecycle of City vehicles and equipment, including procurement, upfitting, maintenance, and replacement for Police, Fire, Parks, and Public Works. With a fleet of more than 200 units—from small ride-on mowers to multimillion-dollar ladder trucks—the Fleet Superintendent ensures safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations that support essential public services citywide.
About the Position
The Fleet Superintendent provides strategic leadership for daily shop activities, supervises staff, manages vendor relationships, and ensures high-quality service delivery. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, excels at problem-solving, and brings both exceptional technical expertise and strong organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and develop fleet staff; direct scheduling, performance management, and training.
- Oversee maintenance, inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance programs for the entire fleet.
- Manage inventory, parts, supplies, contracts, and vendor performance.
- Prepare and administer the annual Fleet Services budget, including capital planning and vehicle replacement recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations, policies, and standards.
- Conduct repair verifications, quality audits, and follow-up assistance for Fleet Services customers.
- Represent Fleet Services at departmental and community meetings; provide clear and professional communication.
- Develop detailed vehicle specifications and coordinate cost-effective procurement and fleet lifecycle solutions.
- Provide detailed risk management information to fleet managers to assist in determining fleet condition.
- Triage workloads based off fleet resources and needs of city departments.
- Provide positive communications with stakeholders including Police, Fire and Public Works management teams

- Experienced in contract management, budgeting, and operational oversight.
- Skilled in procurement, upfitting, and maintenance of a wide range of police, fire, and public-works vehicles.
- Able to build positive working relationships across departments and maintain a high-performance, customer-service-oriented shop environment.
- Previous experience working on Emergency vehicles such as Police and Fire equipment
- Experience in building complex specification for specially vehicles such as vactors, Incident command vehicles, SWAT vehicles, Battalion chief rigs backhoes, graders etc.
Schedule
This position works Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

An Associate Degree with major coursework in business administration, engineering, or a related field, and six (6) years of directly related experience, including three (3) years of supervisory, management, and/or administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed in the job description.
Licensing Requirements:
Oregon Driver's License- Class C
