What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Worker Parks Temporary position at CITY OF GRAND ISLAND?
Perform a variety of duties in the maintenance and grounds keeping of City parks, athletic fields and other related facilities.
Essential Functions:
Utilize a variety of hand and power tools, including mowers, weed eaters, etc.; assist in routine maintenance of such equipment.
May perform routine preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed.
May perform semi-skilled and skilled tasks involving the maintenance, construction and repair of park and recreational facilities.
May perform landscape maintenance duties involving parks, swimming pools, athletic fields, the grounds of City buildings and other public municipal areas.
May perform basic carpentry work and painting for building and maintaining recreational facilities and equipment.
May perform a variety of duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of City's irrigation systems.
Water, mow, weed, trim, renovate and fertilize lawns; prune trees and shrubs; plant trees, flowers and shrubs.
Some weekend hours may be necessary.
Display honest, trustworthy, and ethical behavior when dealing with internal and external customers.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Regular attendance that is punctual and dependable is required.
May assist in other sections of the Department as necessary.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Knowledge of:
Methods, techniques, and procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.
Traffic laws, ordinances and rules.
Purposes and uses of a variety of equipment, power tools and hand tools.
Ability to:
Operate a variety of equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Work effectively in the absence of close supervision.
Use and operate hand tools, mechanical equipment, power tools and other equipment required for the work in a safe and efficient manner.

Experience:
No experience required. Must be at least 18 years of age.
Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
License or Certification:

Working Hours:
Hours Monday through Friday 6:30am - 3:00pm will vary depending on department needs but will include working days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
The duration of the position is April/May through August.
Salary:
Position will start at the entry level of the City's salary table. Consideration may be given if experience exceeds entry level qualifications.
