Do you have a passion for dance and a heart for the community? The City of Glendora’s Recreation and Human Services Department is seeking a passionate and experienced Dance Instructor to lead recreational dance programs for tots, youth, teens and adults. This position plays a key role in promoting health, creativity, and community engagement through movement and expression. 

This position will be responsible for planning and teaching dance classes in a variety of styles (e.g., jazz, hip-hop, ballet, or contemporary), depending on your expertise and community interest. You’ll create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages participants of all skill levels to learn, grow, and have fun. This position will plan, choreograph and hold recitals for all classes to participate in. 


Availability to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends as needed is required.


Under direct supervision, the Dance Instructor performs a variety of duties within the City’s Recreation & Human Services Department.  Some of the typical duties of the Dance Instructor include but are not limited to, the following:


  • Plan, organize, and lead weekly dance classes for designated age groups.
  •  Develop lesson plans that align with participant skill levels and program goals
  • Hold three recitals per year after each session. 
  •   Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and constructive feedback
  •   Ensure participant’s safety and maintain a positive class atmosphere
  •  Set up and clean up class space before and after sessions
  •  Communicate with Recreation Supervisor regarding class needs, attendance, and feedback
  •  Represent the City of Glendora in a professional and community-focused manner

Qualifications

May include, but are not limited to, the following:  High school graduate or equivalent, plus two years of college coursework and experience in developing, organizing and directing programs.  Ability to follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public; set up or take down tables, chairs and other equipment for classes or special events; must be able to lift 40 pounds and push/pull 50 pounds and get from location to location during the course of doing business.


  • Minimum of 1 year of experience teaching dance in a group setting

  • Strong knowledge of dance techniques and styles

  • Ability to engage and motivate participants of all ages and abilities

Special Requirements

May be required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.  

Applicants must possess a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record during the course of employment.

Please note: The selection process may include a written and/or performance exam, as well as an interview.

Salary : $26 - $32
