The City of Glendale is currently accepting applications for Temporary General Laborer. This position performs landscape maintenance and repair work for our Parks Maintenance Division. NOTE: There are eleven (11) vacant positions we will be filling in this job posting. Applications will be referred to the department for review weekly. | ||

Essential Functions
- Performs custodial, maintenance and repair work, such as painting, landscaping, and maintenance of specialized equipment.
- Operates a city vehicle.
- Operates various light equipment including UTVs, trucks, trucks with trailers, pressure washers, leaf blowers, landscape equipment and use various hand and power tools.
- Notifies residents and businesses about the work being performed and answers questions from citizens.
- Maintains daily work records; may perform some computerized data entry work.
- Transport and sets up supplies and equipment; makes required safety checks.
- Maintains parks, facility grounds, parking lots, and bike paths.
- Removes graffiti.
- Trims bushes, removal of weeds and cares for plants.
- Repairs or replaces park amenities, recreation equipment, picnic benches and tables.
- Marks and reconditions play fields and assist with set up for sports and special events.
- Cleans bleachers and dug out areas.
- Assist with installation and maintains park signs, fences, and gates.
- Cleans and restocking restrooms, picking up litter, and servicing trash receptacles.
- Responds to and resolves citizen complaints pertaining to parks facilities.
- Explain Park policies and regulations to park patrons.
- Maintains high visibility to dissuade vandalism and crime in parks facilities.
- Assists with animal control in parks facilities.
- Ensures that reserved facilities are maintained in a safe, clean condition, checks for permits.
- Aids in emergency situations; calls for park rangers, police, or fire/medical assistance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications/Special Requirements/Success Factors
- One year of experience in landscape maintenance, repair work and/or the operation of light, medium, and heavy equipment related to parks division.
Knowledge of:
- Rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to area of assignment
- Materials, tools, equipment, safety hazards and precautions common to the assigned areas of responsibility
Ability to:
- Understand and follow safe working practices
- Be courteous to the public/citizens when answering questions and explaining policies Operate light, equipment; perform maintenance Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
- Fill out reports and logs, and enter and retrieve information on computers
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements
- Must have a valid Arizona Driver's License.
- Must operate assigned vehicle on a regular basis.
- May be subject to call back, evening, weekend, and rotating shifts.
- Must pass and complete all required training for operation of equipment and tools.
- Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their period of employment in accordance with the City of Glendale Substance Abuse policy.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
- Work involves heavy digging, occasional heavy lifting of 50 to 75 pounds, extensive walking, bending, standing, and working in water filled holes.

- Exposure to heavy traffic, hot weather, hazardous materials, insects, and gases.
