What are the responsibilities and job description for the WATER PLANT OPERATOR position at City of Gladstone?
JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for operation of the well field, water treatment plant, and storage tanks and providing the City of Gladstone with safe drinking water and adequate water pressure for firefighting.
SHIFT: 2:00pm through 12:00am, Wednesdays through Saturdays
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Performs quality control tasks, including water lab testing water lab, adjusting feed rates on chemicals, checking well-monitoring pumps, backwashing filters, and performing general maintenance.
- Keeps logs, journals, and records of communications related to water.
- Maintains equipment, building, and grounds.
- Assists with special projects in Water, Streets, Sewer, Storm and other areas of PW.
- Serves on-call every third week and more frequently as-needed. On-call requires a 30-minute response time.
- Responsible for responding to emergency calls within 30 minutes. Carries a pager on a rotating basis that limits activity and travel due to response time requirements.
- Performs janitorial and housekeeping services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar
position for one to two years. - Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Missouri for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain state certification as a MO-D Water Operator within 1-year of employment.
