Position Description:
Performance in a variety of tasks including maintenance and repairs to city property, facilities and equipment, parks and playground equipment, sewer flushing and lagoon maintenance, monitor water operations, and water meter maintenance and testing. May operate a truck, street sweeper, loader, dump truck, hand tools, motorized equipment, mowers, and various other equipment. Assignments are supervised and outlined by the City Council who will delegate duties to the Maintenance Department in conformance with established standards and specifications, safety and economy of operations.
Essential Job Duties:
· Service and maintain water and sewer lines.
· Installation and maintenance of water meters.
· Take water and wastewater samples as directed.
· Clean and flush culverts and sewers.
· Ensures the proper maintenance of tools and equipment.
· Operates a variety of hand and power tools and equipment including but not limited to skid-steers, mowers, trimmers, chainsaws, front-end loaders, etc.
· Assist with general snow and ice removal on streets, parking lots and around public buildings, either manually or using snow removal equipment.
· Assists in the upkeep and maintenance of the city parks, facilities, athletic fields and recreational areas.
· Responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and the safe operation of equipment.
· Other duties as assigned by Maintenance Manager.
Physical Demands:
· Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, smell, and use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls.
· Ability to lift and move 50 to 100 pounds.
· Required to work in outside weather conditions.
· Required to work near moving mechanical parts.
Qualifications:
· Knowledge of general maintenance, construction, tools, and equipment.
· Proven maintenance experience.
· Ability to operate heavy machinery.
· Be willing and able to take directions from City Maintenance Manager.
· Ability to use common tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches.
· Anticipate on-call work in response to weather emergency events requiring road maintenance.
· Ability to carry out oral and written instructions.
· Possession of a valid driver’s license.
