The City of Galion is hiring for a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Trainee. This is a classified (civil service) position and requires an application. This is an AFSCME bargaining unit position and is a Monday-Friday, first shift schedule.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direction, learns to operate Wastewater Treatment Plant; performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: (course work, training, work experience, or equivalent combination)
Completion of secondary education and experience, which indicates an advanced knowledge of Wastewater Treatment Plant operating procedures.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS:
Must obtain at least a Class I Water Reclamation (Wastewater) license within three (3) years of employment, and a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s License. Must obtain at least a Class II Water Reclamation (Wastewater) license within six (6) years from date of hire or date of promotion.
ILLUSTRATIVE DUTIES: (The duties listed below are intended to depict tasks performed by this classification)
(1) Learns to operate the Wastewater Treatment Plant by performing job duties under direction of licensed operator; monitors plant to ensure that plant and equipment continually operate in accordance with regulatory standards; observes meters, gauges and dials, and records readings; checks outside buildings to maintain heat; controls solids and sludge; regulates dissolved oxygen and production of methane gas from digester; regulates chlorine flow; checks water traps on gas lines.
(2) Collects samples, including collection and/or industrial pre-treatment samples; performs laboratory analysis and tests by running various tests to analyze content.
(3) Inspects equipment to ensure proper operating condition and notifies proper authority of any needed repairs; helps make minor repairs to pumps, motors, and equipment.
(4) Maintains records reflecting tests performed, adjustments made, readings, and other related data; prepares reports as requested.
(5) Maintains office building and yard; cleans buildings, sweeps and mops floor; mows yard and general clean up as directed.
(6) Maintains personal and professional competence and awareness; maintains required licenses and/or certifications; attends professional education and training sessions, seminars and workshops; performs other duties as assigned.
