Summary
The Park Supervisor oversees the maintenance and upkeep of all City parks and recreational facilities to ensure a consistently clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for the public. This position is responsible for the care of 14 parks totaling 240 acres, the City Pool, Legends Rec-Plex, and Tanglewood Clubhouse.
Essential Duties
Maintenance Responsibilities
- Maintain ball fields, grounds, playgrounds, restrooms, and other park facilities to keep them clean, safe, and operational.
- Perform and coordinate carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and general repair projects.
- Set up equipment and materials for special events.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Install and maintain landscaping.
- Manage turf care, including fertilization, irrigation, weed control, and seeding.
- Maintain and repair the City Pool, Splash Pad, and major systems in the Legends Rec-Plex.
- Stay informed on industry developments by attending training programs and seminars.
- Interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
- Complete assignments accurately and on time.
- Provide appropriate supervision and support to staff.
- Monitor inventory and order necessary supplies, tools, and equipment.
- Plan and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Assist with planning and construction of new park features such as fencing, shelters, and restrooms.
- Assist in interviewing and selecting new staff to ensure qualified personnel are hired.
- Conduct orientation for new employees.
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, evaluations, and support to staff while encouraging professional performance and growth.
- Identify training needs, troubleshoot issues, and help resolve problems.
- Provide coverage for staff absences to maintain smooth operations.
- Promote teamwork and positive working relationships within the department.
- Administer constructive corrective actions and ensure employees understand expectations.
- Oversee seasonal ground crews and maintain a professional work environment.
- Frequent access to various work sites.
- Regular exposure to outdoor weather, temperature extremes, chemicals, fumes, dust, loud noises, heights and cramped spaces.
- Extended work hours and overtime may be required.
- Adequate agility, strength, coordination, and endurance to perform physical tasks.
- Ability to lift and handle objects up to 100 pounds.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain a Class B CDL and valid Missouri driver’s license.
- Experience in grounds maintenance, painting, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work.
- Ability to operate equipment such as backhoes and welders.
- Knowledge of wildlife and conservation practices.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Average memory, decision-making, analytical thinking, and conceptual reasoning skills.
- Ability to manage time-sensitive decisions.
- Proficient verbal, written, and nonverbal communication.
