Lead Mechanic

Job Summary: Join our team as a skilled Wastewater Treatment Plant Lead Mechanic. This position involves maintaining and repairing specialized plant machinery at our wastewater treatment facility, supporting Licensed Operators, and ensuring smooth plant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of plant machinery
- Check, maintain, repair, and replace motors, pumps, line shafts, and other equipment
- Maintain preventative maintenance logs and records
- Prioritize and complete work orders and preventative maintenance tasks
- Communicate effectively with the Superintendent, Chief Operator, and Operators
- Train new maintenance hires as needed
- Use hand, bench, and machine tools for repair and maintenance tasks
- Operate equipment such as drill presses, grinders, and perform welding tasks
- Assist in drawing and pumping sludge, turning valves, and recirculating sludge
- Design and fabricate parts as required
- Research, order, and obtain necessary tools, equipment, and parts
- Maintain plant structures and grounds
- High school diploma or equivalent with vocational/technical training in plumbing, mechanical, and electrical repair
- Four (4) or more years of experience in mechanical maintenance, including sewage treatment plant maintenance
- Valid Commonwealth of Virginia driver's license
- Proficient in equipment repair and maintenance
- Understanding of relevant laws, ordinances, and safety precautions
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective relationships
- Capable of implementing programs and reporting progress
- Problem-solving skills in a responsive environment
- Ability to perform advanced technical or scientific tasks
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills
- Ability to follow instructions and exercise independent judgment
- Skilled in equipment overhaul and restoration
- Ability to exert strong physical effort for heavy work
- Capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 100 pounds
- Ability to perform tasks involving balancing, climbing, crawling, and other physical activities
