I. Purpose of Job
This Police Victim Services Coordinator position reports directly to the Chief of Police. This role is responsible for providing professional support services to victims and witnesses of crime or traumatic events. The coordinator will offer emotional support, information about available services. This position requires excellent interpersonal skills, trauma-informed care knowledge, and a strong understanding of victim advocacy practices. The Victim Services Coordinator will also serve as a liaison between the victim and law enforcement and community resources. This position is essential to upholding the department’s mission of service and support to the community. This is not a remote, work from home position. It may require on scene response occasionally, at law enforcement request.
II. Essential Job Duties
- Provides direct services to victims of crime, including emotional support, safety planning, and referrals to community resources.
- Coordinates with officers and detectives to identify and engage victims in need of services.
- Maintains comprehensive case files and documentation of services provided.
- Develops and maintains partnerships with local service providers to ensure victims have access to appropriate support services.
- Prepares statistical reports and summaries on services provided for internal use.
- Supports the department’s outreach efforts to raise awareness about victim services.
- Prioritizes work to meet victims’ needs in a timely and empathetic manner.
- Provides quality customer service to victims, witnesses, and internal stakeholders.
- Responds to both phone and electronic messages; provides guidance and information as appropriate.
- Prepares case summaries, memos, reports, and correspondence in a professional manner.
- Attends department and community meetings; represents the department professionally.

- Prepares spreadsheets, memos, reports, in a professional manner.
- Works with the Police Volunteers and the Police Public Affairs Office related to the Chaplain program, the telephone checks members of the community, and other programs as needed.
III. Other Job Duties
Performs other job duties as assigned, including:
- Conducting training for law enforcement personnel on victim-centered practices.
- Participating in community events related to crime prevention and victim awareness.
- Providing briefings to the Chief of Police regarding victim trends and service needs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Job Content Knowledge: Has thorough knowledge of trauma-informed care, victim advocacy, and criminal justice system practices. Understands policies, procedures, and resources available for victim services. Possesses strong interviewing and counseling skills and demonstrates professionalism, empathy, and ethical conduct. Can exercise independent judgment and discretion in handling sensitive situations.
- Language Skills: Read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, legal documents, or governmental regulations. write reports, case notes, and correspondence, effectively present information and respond to questions from victims, law enforcement personnel, and the public.
- Mathematical Skills: Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compile and interpret statistical data for reporting purposes.
- Reasoning Ability: Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in crisis situations. interpret and apply a variety of instructions and policies. Ability to adapt responses based on victim needs and emotional state.
- Teamwork: Develops constructive and supportive relationships with victims, colleagues, and community partners. Encourages collaboration and information-sharing. Provides input on improving service delivery. Willingly assists others in managing complex or high-need cases.

VIII. Qualifications
Education and Experience: The required knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform job duties are normally acquired through attainment of a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field from an accredited college or university. A master’s degree and/or licensure in counseling or social work is desirable. A minimum of three (3) years of experience providing victim advocacy or counseling services, preferably in a law enforcement or crisis intervention setting.
Required Certifications/Licenses:
Must possess a valid driver’s license. Relevant professional certifications in victim advocacy or crisis intervention preferred.
