What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utilities Mechanic position at City of Fort Lauderdale?
- Troubleshoots, inspects, installs, fabricates, maintains, and repairs mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, valves, piping, chemical equipment, conveyers, presses, screens, gear boxes, facility carts, and all other facility machinery/equipment associated within the treatment plants, pump stations, tanks, and water storage facilities, and performs related preventative maintenance and inspections.
- Reviews equipment manuals and maintenance records to develop preventive maintenance schedules.
- Operates and cares for hand and power tools in maintaining, fabricating, and repairing parts for machinery and equipment.
- Submits daily and weekly reports for the tasks and maintenance duties performed.
- Provides assistance to the Diesel Technician, welders, Electrician, and Machinist; performs welding, acetylene burning, brazing, soldering, minor carpentry, and painting, as needed.
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Reading drawing specifications and manufacturer's data sheets.
- Works around medium voltage, rotating equipment and various hazardous chemicals.
- May be required to perform "stand-by duty", being available and responding to off-duty emergency call-ins to effect repairs.
- Performs related work as required.
- Have successfully graduated from a standard high school or trade school or possess a G.E.D. certificate from a recognized institution.
- Must demonstrate a minimum of one (1) year of experience in mechanical maintenance and repair work.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B or higher with Air Brakes.
- Prior work experience with installation and maintenance at a water treatment plant in a utility system is preferred.
