What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Technician position at City of Fort Lauderdale?
- Operates and tests diesel powered generators, pumps, and equipment
- Diagnoses malfunctions; disassembles engines; examines parts for defects and wear
- Reconditions and/or replaces parts such as pistons, bearings, gears, valves and bushings, using hand or power tools and precision-measuring and testing instruments,
- Performs complete overhaul of diesel engines when required
- Maintains records of equipment status and certifications
- Ensures emergency preparedness of equipment
- Procures parts and services as needed
- Assists in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s)
- Works around high voltage, rotating equipment and various hazardous chemicals.
- Ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
- Knowledge of Federal, State and County Underground Storage Tank (UST) regulations.
- Performs related work as required
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency, preferably supplemented with technical training by a diesel manufacturer or vocational/trade school.
- Three or more years of experience operating and maintaining diesel powered generators.

- A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B or higher with Air Brakes and an acceptable driving record.
