Position Summary

The Project Coordinator for Art in Public Places will coordinate and support public art initiatives located in Fort Collins, Colorado.

The Role Of Art In Public Places (APP)

The City established the APP program in 1995 to integrate art into our community through acquisition and maintenance of public art. Art in Public Places directly funds art through construction projects in Fort Collins. City of Fort Collins capital projects (budgeted for more than $250,000) dedicate 1% of estimated costs to add art to these projects.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Delivery

  • Coordinate and assist in the full lifecycle of large public art project/s and or manage small public art projects, including planning, artist selection, design development, fabrication, installation, and project documentation
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, budgets, and work plans Work with cross-functional teams, including internal staff, partners, artists, fabricators, engineers, and contractors
  • Assist and monitor project scope, risks, and changes, ensuring projects stay on schedule and within budget
  • Maintain project documentation and records
  • Duties must align/adhere to APP and City policy and regulations
  • Coordinate and create related documents for necessary approvals by the Arts & Culture Board and City Council
  • Maintain online public art inventory
  • Coordinate public art maintenance

Artist & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as a liaison for commissioned artists (visual and performance) guiding them through project requirements, processes, and expectations
  • Facilitate artist selection processes including RFQ/RFP, panel coordination, interviews, and contract development
  • Build and maintain relationships with community members, partners, and stakeholders to ensure projects are inclusive and responsive

Contracting & Compliance

  • Assist in processing contracts, scopes of work, and agreements with artists and vendors
  • Support staff to ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including public procurement processes

Community Engagement & Communication

  • Support and/or lead community engagement efforts related to public art projects
  • Translate project team input into project direction in collaboration with artists
  • Create outreach documents and schedule outreach events
  • Work with the APP staff in communicating updates to the general public through the website, social media and newsletters

Budget & Financial Oversight

  • Assist in tracking and managing project budgets
  • Create, process and track invoices and work orders,

Installation & Site Coordination

  • Schedule project team meetings to discuss installation logisitics
  • Help coordinate site readiness, permitting, and installation logistics
  • Work with engineers, fabricators, and city departments to ensure safety and feasibility
  • Help coordinate installation to ensure alignment with approved designs and standards

Required Qualifications

Minimum - College degree or equivalent work experience

Description: Bachelor’s degree in art, arts administration, art history, or related field from an accredited college. Experience in project management.
