Summary: Pony Riding Supervisor is responsible for grooming and tacking ponies for visitors to lead their children in an outdoor arena.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
-Supervision of children and their parents/guardians
-Responsible for the cleaning of the arena, keeping a neat and tidy tack room
-Greet children and parents in a friendly manner
-Responsible for having parents sign liability waiver, collect a token from each rider
-Knowledge of children’s whereabouts at all time
-Treat visitors and animals with respect and represent the City in a positive, and professional manner.

Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Must be able to groom, saddle, and safely lead ponies, must also be able to fit an equestrian helmet to children’s heads. Must possess and exhibit the very best customer service skills consistently.
Education and/or Experience
-Experience working with children, being able to safely groom, saddle, and lead ponies/horses.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
-1st aid/CPR preferable
Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively with children, parents, staff and the public. Must be able to effectively give directions to adults and children.
Reasoning Ability: Must be able to foresee, and trouble shoot negative horse behavior to avoid problems between people and horses.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to kneel, jump, run stoop, crouch, reach with hands and arms. The employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to various weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, hail and heat. The employee will be exposed to allergy-causing conditions (i.e. cottonwood, dust, animals, etc.). The employee may be exposed to a variety of childhood illnesses.
The employee must be able to work effectively in an environment of noisy, happy, and sometimes distraught children. The employee must possess high tolerance for the characteristic behavior of children in outdoor recreation settings, and work effectively in high stress situations. The employee should be flexible with the demands and interests of children.
Hours: This position works Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 3:15 p.m., Sundays, 11 a.m. – 3:15 p.m. through October.
