Then you’re the perfect applicant for the Parks Downtown Maintenance Worker position. The Parks Downtown Maintenance Worker is a job where you’ll be working outdoors in the downtown urban corridor helping to maintain cleanliness, interacting with the public, and learning horticultural as well as green industry standards, landscaping techniques and irrigation practices. You’ll perform a variety of duties including simple mechanical/construction work, pruning, mulching, weeding, and planting, which are practical and in demand career skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: -Assist with infrastructure and grounds maintenance of City parks and downtown public spaces. -Operate (after provided training) a variety of equipment including utility vehicles, hand tools, and power tools. -Clean and remove waste from all areas of the downtown corridor. -Empty and clean wastebaskets and trash containers, ash trays and cigarette urns. -Collect recycling materials. -Clean and pressure wash downtown sidewalks and public spaces. -Assist with irrigation maintenance and repairs. -Assist with snow removal. -Assist with maintenance of downtown water features. -Perform event prep and clean-up. -Perform simple tasks related to carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, mechanical and construction work, often under the supervision of a skilled technician. -Interact with the public in a professional and courteous manner. -Work successfully in a team environment, as well as autonomously, in all weather conditions. -Engage with team members in a considerate and helpful manner and project a positive attitude in the workplace. -Report to work on time as scheduled. -Assist with other park, cemetery, forestry, horticulture, and golf maintenance tasks when requested. -All other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/Experience: -Unrestricted valid driver’s license. -Must be at least 18 years old. -Successfully pass a motor vehicle record and background check. -Physical, mental, and cognitive abilities sufficient to perform the essential duties outlined above with or without reasonable accommodation. These include: -Must be proficient in English with the ability to read, write, speak, and understand. -Physical ability and stamina to perform duties including bending, lifting, digging, pushing, and kneeling. -Requires light and heavy manual labor that requires walking or standing most of the time. -Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 50 pounds maximum. Proper safety measures for lifting/moving any item are expected to be followed; including, but not limited to, the use of proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), use of lifting/moving equipment, and/or assistance from co-workers. Working Conditions: -Position is a non-benefitted seasonal/temporary hourly position. -Potential for flexible work schedules to allow for work-life-school balance. -Hours vary from part-time to full-time and may include weekends and holidays. -Potential for overtime pay and accrued sick/personal time based on qualified hours worked. -Work occurs outdoors in a variety of weather conditions under the supervision of a crew leader. -Safety gear is provided and required including, but is not limited to, safety-toed boots, safety glasses and ear protection. -May use chemicals including cleaning supplies and herbicides. -Attendance at weekly staff meetings, trainings, and safety meetings is required. -City of Fort Collins works together with staff to prevent the spread of germs (COVID, etc.) to maintain a clean, safe environment.
