Summary
Participates as a leader or a working member of crew in the operations and maintenance tasks to maintain the infrastructure within the City, including streets, storm & sanitary sewer, parks, sports fields, and facility maintenance, under the direction of Maintenance Worker III.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following; however, other duties may be assigned. - Participates as a leader or a working member of crew for maintenance tasks and repairs on City streets, curbs, sidewalks, parking lots, islands and other rights-of-way, drainage systems including culverts and ditches, park grounds, facilities, and buildings;
- Participates as a leader or a working member of crew to Clean, remove, repair, seal, and/or replace concrete, asphalt, storm lines, and related drainage systems;
- Operates light to heavy equipment including trucks, backhoes, rollers, snowplows and spreaders, tractors, compressors, tamping machines, chippers, tar pots, bucket loaders, mowers, foggers, chainsaws, jack hammers, and various power and hand tools;
- Participates as a leader or a working member of crew of seasonal tasks such as tree trimming and brush removal, grass and weed mowing and trimming, mosquito fogging, sewer cleaning, painting parking lot markings, building maintenance and repair, updating inventory and fixed assets listing, and special events and holiday preparation;
- Operates snowplow and salt spreader as needed for snow removal and de-icing procedures;
- Participates as a leader or a working member of crew to repair, replace, and maintain City signs and traffic signals, and paints traffic marking signs;
- Participates as a leader or a working member of crew verifying that appropriate safety practices such as placing traffic routing and warning signs around work areas to redirect traffic are in place and being used;
- Participates as a leader or a working member of crew to repair and maintain City facilities and buildings; repair damaged buildings and equipment, construct new park and playground equipment;
- Participates as a leader or a working member of crew to prepare fields and park grounds for recreational programs and activities, landscaping, and installing new structures;
- Responds to emergency calls outside of normal working hours related to flooding and relief efforts, water main breaks, roadway obstructions, traffic problems and other issues as needed;
- Promote safety as a top priority, and continuously monitor work sites to ensure safety procedures are followed;
- Responds to public inquiries, comments, and actions; provides information and refers to appropriate City representative; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Duties
Assists the Maintenance Worker III in overseeing the work of Maintenance Worker I and Seasonal Employees
Education and Experience Required
High School Diploma or equivalent with three (3) years of related work experience in public works, construction, or equipment operation. Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes endorsement.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Tools, materials, methods, and practices used in the maintenance, repair, construction, and improvement of City infrastructure, facilities, and buildings;
- Public works construction standards, methods, and related regulatory guidelines including Missouri Department of Labor Safety standards; and
- Safe and efficient operation of a wide variety of tools and equipment under hazardous and emergency situations.
Ability to:
- Safely operate City equipment, including but not limited to, backhoe, skid steer, man lift, forklift, dump truck, bucket truck;
- Perform construction activities during emergency and non-emergency conditions;
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills working within a crew;
- Take initiative to identify and make recommendations for needed maintenance or repairs;
- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
- Respond effectively to inquiries and complaints from the public and present information in one-on-one situations;
- Perform basic math functions;
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables, mostly standardized, but some unique situations;
- Perform manual labor for extended periods of time under adverse environmental conditions;
- Instruct other employees in proper methods, practices, and uses of materials, tools, and equipment in a variety of maintenance and construction activities;
- Communicate effectively with residents, business owners, and City Officials;
- Work in hazardous traffic conditions;
- Work evenings and weekends as needed;
- Ability to work without direct supervision;
- Comply with all City and Department policies and procedures;
- Perform job responsibilities during emergency conditions; and
- Promote a positive representation of the City of Fenton.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $24.52 per hour
