The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for a Recreation Center Supervisor to develop, plan, organize, implement, oversee, promote and conduct a wide variety of activities, operations and programs in support of an assigned recreation center including furnishing necessary supplies, supervising a recreation facility and providing recreational activities such as dancing, arts, crafts, and games; to manage designated budget; and to perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Organize, schedule, coordinate, administer and supervise a wide variety of recreation classes, leisure activities and special events for all ages, from toddlers to senior adults; effectively implement, monitor and ensure all assigned operations, recreational and athletic activities, both inside and outside of recreation center.
- Select, train, motivate and evaluate personnel for assigned center; provide or coordinate staff training; evaluate employee performance; work with employees to correct deficiencies; plan, prioritize and delegate work of assigned staff.
- Implement and enforce policies and procedures, rules and regulations, goals and objectives, staff and program schedules and general methods for center management.
- Answer questions and provide information to the public concerning recreation center programs, activities, policies, and procedures; investigate and respond to complaints, take corrective actions as appropriate and forward concerns to necessary administration.
- Receive and receipt program, registration, rental and other affiliated recreation fees; reconcile revenue daily and issue refunds as appropriate; coordinate with administration to correct any financial imbalances and errors.
- Conduct program surveys to determine needs and satisfaction; analyze data and implement adjustments and program changes; maintain records and develop reports concerning new or ongoing programs and program effectiveness; maintain records for registration and fees collected; prepare statistical reports as required.
- Prepare marketing material including news releases, newsletters, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures; maintain assigned webpage and ensure current and accurate information.
- Recruit and vet instructors, coaches, and volunteers for center programs; provide training to volunteers; plan and coordinate volunteer recognition functions.
- Oversee routine maintenance of assigned recreation center; contact building maintenance for major repair needs.
- Ensure assigned budget; forecast funds; monitor expenditures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
None. Experience in recreation program planning and administration preferred.
Training:
Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major work in recreation administration, physical education, business administration or a related field.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability. Possession of or ability to obtain a CPR certification; AED certification; and First Aid certification within one year of hire.
Preferred:
NCRPA Membership; Certified Parks & Recreation Professional certification; Activity Professional certification; Therapeutic Recreation license; Senior Center Management certificate.
SBI/Fingerprinting Criminal History Record Check Requirement: To comply with Sessions Law 2025-16, applicants offered a position with the City may be subject to a criminal history record check of State and National Repositories of Criminal Histories conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) in accordance with G.S. 143B-1209.26. The City may consider the results of these criminal history record checks in its hiring decisions.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check, and driving history check.
