JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision the Library Aide PT is responsible for assisting with all duties related to providing access to library materials, promoting literacy and library services in the community, and providing general public library service. Additionally, every library staff member’s first responsibility is to provide the highest level of front-line customer service by following these principles: practicing consistency, equitable treatment of all patrons, active listening, going one step more, and doing the right thing.
This position may be assigned to the People team, with an emphasis on customer service tasks, the Processes team, with an emphasis on materials handling and collection maintenance, or to the Programs and Outreach team, with an emphasis on assisting with a variety of library classes and events and promoting library services in the community.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Must have strong people skills, a commitment to excellent customer service and interpersonal work relationships.-
Ability to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends within the operational hours of the library. -
Must demonstrate an eagerness and aptitude for acquiring skills in technical areas, as well as, good internet searching skills, familiarity with mobile devices and apps and knowledge of social media. -
Empathy, patience, and the ability to listen actively and without judgment. -
Excellent customer service skills with a commitment to meeting the needs of all individuals. -
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. -
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school degree or equivalent plus six (6) months of customer service experience required. Public library work experience preferred. Experience with Koha ILS/Aspen Discovery Layer and Office 365/Teams preferred. Bilingual in a relevant language preferred. Any equivalent combination of experience or education may be considered. Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting reaching are required. Repetitive movement of wrist and fingers during computer data input is required. Must be able to lift and carry 25 pounds on an occasional basis. 50 – 100% of day using computer. Maintains static posture during sitting. Works primarily indoors in a controlled environment. Must be able to work at outside City events occasionally.
