JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, the Animal Shelter Attendant is responsible for maintaining the animal shelter and the animals in the City’s care, as well as performing various administrative and clerical duties. The Animal Shelter Attendant will have frequent interaction with customers, volunteers, and City Employees, which includes greeting the public, taking in and releasing animals from the shelter, and collecting fees for Animal Services.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of general office procedures and standard office equipment.-
Knowledge of the care and handling of animals. -
Ability to understand and apply laws governing sanitation methods. -
Ability to deal tactfully, effectively, and courteously with the public. -
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures, including heat, cold, and during inclement weather conditions. -
- Must have the ability to work a flexible work schedule to include flexible work hours and the ability to work weekends as scheduled.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
High school education or equivalent is required. Must possess a valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record. Must be at least 18 years of age.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Lifting up to 55 pounds, pushing/pulling up to 75 pounds, gripping 25 pounds, on occasion may lift up to 75 pounds, walking, using poles/ropes to restrain animals, sitting, standing, near/far vision, ability to access confined spaces, works indoors and outdoors, including exposure to excess heat, cold, and precipitation.
Pre-employment screening includes, but is not limited to, Drug Screen, Physical Examination, Credit Check, Motor Vehicle Review, and applicable Background Checks.
