We encourage all interested individuals to submit a full application to be considered for the upcoming Police Civil Service Testing, whether you are a certified officer or not.
RECRUITMENT INCENTIVES – EARN UP TO $20,000!
For WV Certified Officers:
- $15,000 incentive paid upon hiring
- $5,000 additional incentive after two years of satisfactory service
For Uncertified Candidates:
- $3,000 incentive upon successful completion of the WV Law Enforcement Academy and certification
- $1,500 additional incentive after two years of satisfactory service
Returning Elkins Officers:
- For eligible reinstated officers, the City will cover any outstanding contractual obligations owed to another police department.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Enforce city, county, and state laws; initiate investigations
- Patrol and respond to calls to protect life and property
- Issue citations, make arrests, and direct traffic
- Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services
- Operate tactical equipment; conduct accident investigations
- Maintain detailed reports and records
- Engage in public hearings, media events, and community outreach
- Support departmental policies, budget, and operations
- Perform other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be at least 18 years old on the day of the written exam
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must pass a physical exam, drug screening, and law enforcement qualification tests
- Must have a valid driver’s license
