Education and Experience: High School Diploma, GED, or higher and three (3) years of experience in the building trades or building/grounds maintenance, including one (1) year of art exhibition installation or facility rental installation experience.
Licenses and Certificates: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent from another state by time of appointment.
General Purpose
Under general supervision, conduct, oversee and schedule, maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds, assist with exhibition installation, rental and programming events, security, and janitorial services.
Typical Duties
Conduct and oversee preventative maintenance inspections and reviews. Involves: Provide and schedule repair, maintenance, upkeep and other services to buildings, grounds, and related systems. Utilize computer-based facility management system to monitor HVAC and security equipment. Assure operational status of back-up generator power and systems monitoring equipment. Maintain and operate automated lighting. Landscape and maintain grounds. Maintain, repair and upgrade buildings, infrastructure equipment, heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), security, fire suppression systems and grounds. Establish and prioritize work and related repair and maintenance. Assist with implementation of Museum’s Collection Care and Management policy as it pertains to security, janitorial services, and disaster planning. Prepare and log work orders. Conduct daily inspections to ensure that services meet operational requirements and comply with industry standards. Identify areas needing improvement. Recommend techniques, supplies and materials. Provide suggestions to colleagues and contractors. Identify and determine supplies and other inventory items needed in area of assignment.
Process work orders for rentals and internal programming. Involves: Set-up of events, installation of audio/visual equipment, and coordination of vendors. Assist with gallery installations, fabrication of museum exhibit components, and incoming/outgoing shipments.
Support preparation of museum buildings and arrangements for public display, events and special programs. Involves: Move, install and store exhibit components, paintings, statuary and other art objects. Place protective pads between and around art to protect against damage. Lift art objects and move to designated area, hang paintings and position statuary and other objects on stands as directed. Measure and mark floor layouts. Set up and dismantle audio and lighting systems, exhibit floor areas and platforms in accordance with prescribed security and artistic standards. Examine exhibits for damage and perform minor repairs. Prepare and paint various surfaces with rollers, brushes or sprayers. Set up and store tables, chairs, risers and equipment for museum and special events. Perform custodial work before, after or during events, if required. Place informational materials in exhibits.
Assist in ensuring public compliance with safety and security rules and regulations. Involves: Monitor and assist with event security, crowd control and emergency egress plans. Monitor closed circuit security cameras located in galleries, parking lots and other museum locations. Notify supervisors or department officials of unusual circumstances. Operate video camera recorders. Answer questions and provide information and directions.
