The City of East Lansing Parking Division is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and security of the City's parking garages, surface lots, and metered parking system. The division is committed to providing safe, clean, and reliable parking facilities while delivering excellent customer service to residents, businesses, and visitors.
JOB SUMMARY
Performs maintenance and repair of City parking facilities and equipment, collects parking revenue, and provides technical and operational support to the Parking Division administration staff to ensure the efficient operation of the City’s parking system.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains the cleanliness of all parking facilities, including cleaning the elevators, stairwells, windows, drains, trash bins, and dumpster rooms.
- Repairs parking and facility equipment as needed to support continuous operations of the parking facilities.
- Provides information and assistance to customers as needed.
- Assists with revenue collection from meters and cash machines.
- Performs related work as required.
Knowledge of:
- Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC repairs
- Basic arithmetic and computational operations
- Basic computer/tablet use
- Applicable tools and equipment
Skill in:
- Repairing parking equipment and installing replacement parts for machines
- Customer service; promptly providing assistance and information
- Using power and hand tools safely
Ability to:
- Troubleshoot equipment issues
- Responds to customer concerns and questions professionally
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Adhere to work safety protocols and procedures
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency; one to three years of experience in facilities/parking maintenance.
Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.
Special Requirements
Additionally, must be able to frequently walk, climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, lift and carry materials, work from ladders, and operate assigned equipment and vehicles in indoor and outdoor environments under varying weather conditions.
Job Details
Work Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week. Primarily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Required availability for special event weekends.
Participation in a rotating 24/7 paid, on-call schedule.
Salary : $18 - $25
