What are the responsibilities and job description for the Swim Instructor position at City Of East Grand Rapids?
20 hours a week of small group and private swim lessons are available.
Instruct individuals of all ages in swimming skills according to swimEGR standards to ensure the participants success.

- Directly responsible to the Aquatic Supervisor
Functions performed in fulfilling responsibilities:
- Prevent accidents and minimize/eliminate hazardous situations in pool areas.
- Respond quickly to all emergency situations using proper procedures/techniques.
- Enforce all pool regulations set by the EGR Parks and Recreation Department.
- Administer emergency First Aid and/or CPR if certified to any person injured in the pool area and assist Lifeguard(s) in the completion of reports, (certified lifeguards only).
- Work all scheduled shifts or secure own substitute.
- Attend all scheduled staff meetings, in-services and workshops.
- Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
- Maintain positive relations and rapport with pool patrons.
- Complete all necessary paperwork.
- Any other duties assigned by the Aquatic Supervisor.
- Minimum of 1-year experience as an instructor.
- Good organizational skills
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with others (especially children).
- Preferred certifications include ARC Lifeguarding, First Aid and Professional Rescuer CPR/AED.
- Ability to perform well in emergency situations.
