Utility Maintenance Worker – Operations
Pay: $35.679 - $43.746 per hour, DOQ

- Inspect, operate, and maintain the City’s utility infrastructure. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Water Distribution – main break repairs, valve operation and repair, hydrant inspection and repair, meter replacements, etc.
- Sanitary Collection – sewer jetting, sewer inspection (CCTV) , lift station inspection, etc.
- Storm Conveyance – sewer jetting, sewer inspection (CCTV), lift station inspections, pond inlet/outlet inspection, etc.
- Enter, review, and maintain inspection, maintenance, and repair records of City infrastructure. Interpret, update, and record as built and location plan information.
- Maintain a positive, close working relationship with customers (customer service to residents and businesses) while providing general inspection, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of utility systems.
- Location of City infrastructure under the Gopher State One Call system. Assist internal departments as directed by Utility Supervisors.
- Leverage and utilize technology daily to gather and record information/date; examples include communication (email, smartphone, text, etc.), SCADA, records management, GIS applications, GPS collection, work management applications, etc.
- Responds to emergency callouts after scheduled work hours and performs corrective work as necessary (minimum once every twelve weeks).
- Adhere to and implement all safety rules, regulations and practices.
- Promote and maintain good relationships between co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
- Work with or for other Public Works division as assigned, including snowplowing and other maintenance activities.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Valid Class D or higher driver’s license.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements within 6 months of hire.
- Valid Class D Water Operator Certificate within 18 months of hire.
- Ability to perform the essential position functions and meet the physical requirements of the position under the working conditions described, including independently handling weights up to 70 pounds.
- Associate’s degree or Diploma in Water Environmental Technologies or closely related field.
- Valid Minnesota Class C or higher Water Operator license.
- Valid Minnesota Class SC or higher Wastewater Operator license.
- Valid Minnesota Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements.
- Three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a water treatment, water distribution, wastewater system including infrastructure, appurtenance, and equipment.
- Three years of experience with SCADA, CMMS and/or GIS in the operation of a Minnesota Class B or Class A water treatment, water distribution, wastewater collection, or storm conveyance systems.
Working Conditions
Normal 40 work week Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Must be available to extended workdays and callbacks. Shift changes, standby duties, and pager assignment to be assigned. FLSA non-exempt position.

- Sit 2-4 hours
- Stand 2-3 hours
- Walk 4-5 hours
- Employees will independently handle weights up to 70 lbs.
- Coworker assistance and mechanical devices are utilized when heavy weights and/or large items are difficult to handle independently.
- Employees will drive trucks and/or heavy equipment, climb to heights of 200 feet and depths of 100 feet.
