MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Under close supervision, assists the Director and Assistant Director in coordinating and planning, organization, control, and implementation of local and organizational occupational safety/emergency management activities.

- Plan and implement City of Durant safety policies and procedures.
- Prepare and facilitate educational programs regularly by working with OMAG or providing training based on personal, professional certifications.
- Coordinate with superintendents and supervisors to monitor major projects such as excavations for proper safety provisions.
- Inspect each City facility on a bi-monthly schedule for safety hazards and provide guidance on corrections needed report facility safety violations in a monthly report.
- Visit worksites such as street construction or repair, water line maintenance, parks maintenance and City Garage to ensure that proper PPE is being used and work zones are properly set up.
- Ensure that all buildings containing hazardous materials are properly placarded.
- The safety officer will be expected to assist the Emergency Management department with disaster and emergency response and be available for "On Call' duties on a rotational basis with other Emergency Management personnel.
- Conduct public presentations and speeches at schools, special events, civic organizations including television, radio or newspaper interviews, which would benefit the public's safety and enhance the community awareness and preparedness for any potential emergency threat.
- Perform regular tests, and maintenance on storm sirens.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Five (5) years experience in planning, coordinating and leading in an occupational safety oriented position
- OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in occupational safety. OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must obtain certification for NIMS ICS, 100, 200, 300, and 400, 700, and 800.
- Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check
