Description

As a Recreation Facilities Technician, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and repairing the Durango Community Recreation Center and other City recreation facilities. This is a hands-on, skilled trades position focused on keeping complex building and aquatics systems safe, functional, and ready for daily use.

The starting pay for this position is between $49,913 and $54,904 per year, with opportunities for growth up to $69,878 per year based on long-term growth and performance within the role.

Essential Job Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role:

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work across recreation facilities, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, aquatics systems, and general building maintenance.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair aquatics mechanical systems, such as pool pumps, seals, UV and solar systems, chemical feeders, plumbing, and related electrical components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems ranging from low voltage to high voltage (up to 480 volts).
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on facilities, equipment, and systems to support safe and reliable operations.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment such as power hand tools, forklifts, and painting equipment.
  • Repair and maintain fitness equipment, including tracking and stocking high-use parts.
  • Support capital improvement projects for recreation facilities, including coordination and oversight as assigned.
  • Assist with scheduling, training, and day-to-day oversight of part-time and seasonal custodial staff as a lead worker.
  • Estimate materials, time, and equipment needs; order supplies; and help maintain adequate inventory.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance work, materials used, and costs.
  • Provide professional customer service and represent the City positively to staff and the community.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty on a rotating basis, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • At least five years of experience in building trades and facility maintenance, or a combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills.
  • A valid state driver’s license.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain them.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification, or the ability to obtain it.

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

  • Have strong working knowledge of building systems, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, aquatics, and general maintenance.
  • Are skilled at troubleshooting, problem-solving, and completing repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Can read and interpret technical documents such as manuals, safety procedures, and diagrams.
  • Communicate clearly and work well with supervisors, coworkers, custodial staff, and community members.
