Adult Volleyball Referee

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, you will officiate adult volleyball games for league and/or tournament play. Adult Volleyball Referees support the City’s recreation programs by helping ensure games are conducted in a fair, organized, and professional manner while providing a positive experience for participants and spectators. This role requires strong communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently or alongside other officials during assigned matches.

• Officiate adult volleyball games for league and/or tournament play in accordance with established rules and officiating techniques.
• Apply volleyball rules consistently and exercise sound judgment while managing assigned games and matches.
• Communicate clearly, respectfully, and professionally with players, spectators, and Parks and Recreation staff.
• Work independently or alongside other officials during assigned volleyball games and matches.
• Manage game flow and respond appropriately to interpersonal conflicts that may arise during play.
• Operate and handle sports equipment related to adult volleyball programs.
• Maintain physical readiness to move with the game, including periods of running, standing, and other moderate physical activity.
• Maintain mental focus and professionalism in environments with moderate pressure and frequent public interaction.
• Support the overall operations of City of Durango Parks and Recreation volleyball programs by following department procedures and expectations.
  

You Have:

• Knowledge of the specific sport being officiated (volleyball).
• Previous volleyball officiating experience preferred.
• Ability to communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with staff and the public.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

• Are comfortable making decisions and managing interpersonal situations during games.
• Can adapt to varying work schedules, including evenings and weekends.
• Are able to work in indoor and outdoor recreational facilities and variable environmental conditions.
• Remain calm and focused during periods of moderate physical exertion and mental pressure.
