- Demonstrates commitment to Team Destin and our mission, vision, values, and goals and represents the city in a professional, dignified manner at all times both in actions and appearance.
- Contributes to the development and accomplishment of department meetings and goals.
- Demonstrate competent knowledge of all applicable policies, codes, ordinances, regulations and statutes.
- Demonstrate competent knowledge of all divisional Key Functions and their associated processes.
- Performs routine maintenance of parks, facilities and walkovers to include janitorial duties and the rapid removal of litter, garbage, debris and graffiti.
- Mows, edges, and trims turf.
- Maintains landscaping including planting beds, trees and shrubbery.
- Shovels and removes sand and dirt form walkways, walkovers and driveways.
- Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs and installs sod.
- Paints fences, outbuildings, bathrooms, and other city owned property/buildings (interior and exterior).
- Repairs fences, gates, walls, floors and roofs.
- Performs minor carpentry and masonry projects and repair to include boat ramps and docks.
- Cleans out ditches and culverts at assigned parks, facilities and walkovers.
- Prepares athletic fields for practices, game tournaments and special events.
- Performs routine safety inspections and informs Parks Supervisor of potentially hazardous situations.
- Checks all invoices for city compliance (i.e. employee signature, no tax added, etc).
- Drives truck, truck/trailer combinations and controls movement of lifting apparatus.
- Positions truck to hook-up truck trailer hitches to trailer, and transports loads to designated area.
- Inspects and assists with routine maintenance of equipment including lubricating, recharging batteries, filling fuel tanks, changing oil and washing/cleaning.
- Sharpens tools such as weed cutters, edging tools, and shears.
- Makes minor repairs on equipment such as lawn mower, spreader, and miscellaneous lawn care tools/equipment.
- Inspects and makes minor repairs/adjustments to heating and cooling systems; plumbing and electrical systems and appliances; and sprinkler systems.
- Remains available to work emergency situations (i.e., Post Hurricane Phase).
- Interacts with facility users; answering questions, explaining regulations, enforcing regulations to the best of their ability.
- Notifies their Supervisor (or designee) when confronted by users or when observing users who refuse to abide by laws, regulations or ordinances.
- Notifies the Okaloosa Sheriff’s office when a user’s actions pose imminent danger to the public and/or staff.
- Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedule is subject to change with short notice based on operational needs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
