SUMMARY: Work involves the enforcement of state and local codes, regulations, ordinances and statutes as they pertain to residential and commercial buildings and related structures, by conducting inspections and plan reviews to ensure conformity with established building construction codes as required by law.

Qualifications
Education and Experience: High School graduate/GED or Higher Education. Must be able to demonstrate 4 years’ combined experience in the field of construction or a related field, building code inspection, or plans review corresponding to the certification category sought; or can demonstrate a combination of postsecondary education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals 3 years, with at least 1 year being experience in construction, building code inspection, or plans review; or can demonstrates a combination of technical education in the field of construction or a related field and experience which totals 3 years, with at least 1 year being experience in construction, building code inspection, or plans review.
Licenses Or Certifications Required
Must have a valid Florida state driver’s license. Must hold a Florida Standard Inspectors License in one of the discipline areas of Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical or One and Two Family. Or be able to obtain a Provisional Florida State Inspectors License within 6 months of hire and obtain a Standard Inspectors license within one year of obtaining provisional license in discipline area sought.

- Demonstrate competent knowledge of all applicable policies, codes, ordinances, regulations, and statutes.
- Demonstrate competent knowledge of all Departmental and Divisional Key Functions and their associated processes.
- Responsible for performing inspections of structures to determine compliance with Florida State Building Codes and Standards adopted by the City.
- Responsible for reviewing submitted plans and permit applications to determine if they meet the requirements of various Florida State Building Codes and standards that have been adopted by the jurisdiction and Florida Statutes law. This level of plans examiner shall be able to review plans for any size structure in any occupancy classification.
- Provides technical assistance in construction matters as they pertain to local and state codes to the public, contractors, design professionals, state, and local officials.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
This position is occasionally required to work at a desk in an office environment. - Mobility in and out of vehicles
- Traversing through rough terrain
- Climbing three or more stories
- Climbing ladders
- Working in hazardous conditions (projects under construction)
- Working around loud, heavy equipment
- Intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, or crouching
- Using tools that require a high degree of dexterity
- Working outdoors and occasionally in hot, cold, or inclement weather.
- Lifting objects which may sometimes be over 25 pounds
- Seek additional certifications in the field of Inspections or Plans Examiner not already obtained. (Compensation available for additional Certifications obtained)
