- Ensures the safety of class participants.
- Be knowledgeable of all swim strokes and principles with the ability to educate participants accordingly.
- Plans and instructs swimming lessons; records class attendance.
- Plans and instructions for lifeguard certification, CPR/AED, and re-certification classes
- Maintains class attendance and course records.
- Promotes public relations with facility users and outside organizations by presenting water safety seminars to requesting groups.
- Responds to questions regarding swimming lessons.
- Completes general housekeeping duties in the aquatic facility.
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
- Participate in and may assist with scheduled in-service training and staff meetings.
- May act as a lifeguard
- Observes and cautions patrons by observing behaviors in the pool; instructing regulations; answering questions about programs, safety, and swimming; anticipating unsafe behaviors; and enforcing rules
- Assists with opening and closing procedures by inspecting the pool and equipment; storing equipment; and ensuring all materials are locked and stored
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
- Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience; and
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Position requires the ability to work at night, weekends, and during holidays. Flexible schedule: hours will be set by the Aquatics Management Staff.
- Requires valid American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification for the duration of employment.
- Requires valid American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification for the duration of employment.
- The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor is desired or willing to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing; and
- Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers, the public, and elected and appointed officials;
- Ability to operate cash registers and count and balance monies;
- Ability to work at night, on weekends, and during holidays;
- Ability to operate small equipment used in the performance of essential job functions;
- Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with City administration, other employees, and the general public.
