Wastewater Laborer III

Pay Range: $35,360 - $47,528

PRIMARY ROLE

The Laborer III serves as a vital member of the Wastewater Department. This position is responsible for the maintenance of the City’s wastewater infrastructure through the cleaning and repair of plants, stations, and sewer lines. The incumbent will perform essential manual labor and equipment maintenance under direct supervision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

· Facility Maintenance: Clean and maintain the wastewater plant and surrounding grounds, including grass cutting.

· Infrastructure Repair: Assist with the repair and maintenance of lift stations and sewer gravity lines.

· Inspection Services: Assist with video inspections of sewer mains to ensure structural integrity.

· Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain trash pumps, diesel generators, and other equipment. May be required to operate a vacuum truck for clean-out activities. Operate hand and power tools as needed.

· General Repairs: Perform various plant and equipment repairs and maintenance tasks.

· Emergency Response: May be required to respond to emergency callouts and perform required fixes and repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Minimum Requirements:

· High school diploma or GED.

· Entry-level; up to one (1) year of related experience preferred.

· Valid Driver’s License.

· Must be able to successfully pass a background check and drug screen.

Technical Competencies:

· Ability to safely operate standard equipment required for the position.

· Familiarity with wastewater plant equipment and diesel generators.

Soft Skills:

· Ability to work effectively as part of a team or work crew.

· Ability to interact professionally with the public as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

· Work Setting: Performance of duties is primarily outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, rain, and cold). Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and chemicals.

· Physical Effort: Ability to perform strenuous physical activities for extended periods, including bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and reaching. Must be able to frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, or materials weighing up to 50 lbs., and occasionally more with assistance.
