Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of residential, commercial, and public properties to identify violations of building codes, zoning laws, environmental regulations, and local ordinances
- Investigate complaints related to property maintenance, illegal signage, zoning infractions, and environmental concerns
- Prepare detailed reports documenting violations, inspection findings, and recommended corrective actions using clear writing skills
- Collaborate with property owners, contractors, and other stakeholders to facilitate compliance management and resolve violations efficiently
- Enforce public permitting requirements and ensure adherence to construction regulatory compliance standards
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, correspondence, and regulatory reporting using Microsoft Office tools
- Maintain accurate inspection reports, photographs, correspondence, and case files.
- Prepare reports and documentation for hearings or court proceedings when required.
- Attend meetings as requested.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Skills
- Excellent understanding of building code analysis, zoning regulations, local ordinances, and construction regulatory compliance
- Exceptional report writing skills with the ability to prepare clear documentation
- Customer service-oriented mindset with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse community members and stakeholders
- Delaware Code Enforcement Certification.
- Experience working in local government is preferred.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver's license
- Successful completion of a criminal background check is required as a condition of employment.
