Job Summary:
The Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator performs duties related to the operation and maintenance of the water/wastewater treatment plant. This position operates a city vehicle and is considered a safety-sensitive position.
Specific Duties:
- Supervises personnel assigned to the maintenance of the Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
- Performs the duties of crew members as required.
- Prioritize repairs and maintenance projects to be completed.
- Inspects and maintains treatment plant equipment.
- Conducts quality control samples on water and wastewater.
- Completes and maintains required reports.
- Maintains work areas in an orderly fashion by cleaning, sweeping, etc.
- Monitors the treatment operation, including adjusting flows, chemical input, monitoring gauges, etc.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to effectively communicate in oral and written communications
- Ability to operate commercial telephones and a two-way radio
- Ability to operate a variety of moderate to light power-driven equipment
- Ability to read and interpret maps, sketches, drawings, specifications, and technical manuals
- Ability to perform duties for extended periods in extreme weather
- Ability to maintain a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include walking, standing, bending, or sitting for extended
periods
- Ability to maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, communicating with others, and operating assigned equipment and vehicles
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull moderately heavy objects and materials up to 100 pounds
Required Education, Degrees, Certificates, and/or Licenses:
- High school diploma or GED
- Possess a minimum Class B Wastewater License
- Possess a minimum Class B Groundwater License
- Class I Wastewater Treatment Operator
- Minimum two years experience in water or wastewater utilities
- Valid Texas Driver’s License
