The City of Danville is seeking a Golf Course Grounds Supervisor for our City owned Harrison Park Golf Course.
This professional position oversees the facilities and grounds, seasonal course auxiliary staff, and all course maintenance operations necessary to present quality golfing to all patrons.
Normal Work Hours: Full-time position, days and hours vary
Salary Range: $41,527 - $51,909
Qualifications and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent from a recognized educational institution.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in golf course grounds work.
- Two (2) year certification preferred.
- Ability to obtain all necessary spraying licenses within the probationary period.
- Understanding of irrigation principles and management.
- State of Illinois Class D Driver’s License (within 30 days of hire).
- State of Illinois Applicators License for Turfgrass and Ornamentals (within 30 days of hire).
Required Knowledge and Skills: Employees must possess a basic working knowledge of the following skill sets along with the ability to demonstrate an improvement of these skills within 30 days of hire.
- Basic computer skills, including word processing.
- Demonstrate effective communication.
- Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrated leadership, analysis, and decision-making abilities.
- Basic mechanical skills and math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and interest.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following examples are illustrative of the work duties and responsibilities of this position:
- Successful operation of the golf course maintenance department and the golf course, clubhouse and driving range grounds including the peripheral boundaries of the property. Manages department members, assigns daily tasks, responsible for scheduling. Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
- Work on the course with the crew to maximize productivity, understand the need for necessary time management, prioritize operations of all ground’s crews.
- Ensures proper mixing, calibration, and application of all chemical/fertilizers used on the course.
- Conduct hiring in conjunction with the General Manager, training, and developing all staff, including ensuring the staff is working within OSHA, club safety, state, and federal guidelines for safe working conditions.
- Make appointments and attend meetings necessary to conduct plans and tasks on all items related to the grounds.
- Maintains accurate and complete daily records including, but not limited to, course auxiliary payroll, chemical applications and inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, and other required documentation. Ensures all records are organized, up to date, and submitted in accordance with City and regulatory requirements.
- Daily maintenance, inspection, and minor repair of equipment. Coordinate major repairs with external service providers and maintain detailed logs.

Residency Requirements: Employees of the City must establish their principal residence within forty-five (45) miles of the City of Danville corporate limits within six months following successful completion of their probationary period.
