What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Grounds Maintenance Worker - 8.0 Hours/Day; Year-Round position at Champaign Unit 4 School District?

- High school diploma or equivalent, or compensating experience
- At least two (2) years of grounds experience (preferred)
- Good human relations and communication skills
- Ability to work independently, prioritize workload, and shift between jobs as required
- Must hold or be able to obtain a valid Illinois "Class C" driver’s license
- Must hold or be able to obtain an Illinois Department of Agriculture Pesticide Operator license
- Ability to use standard hand and power tools
- Basic computer skills
- General familiarity with all of the following areas and advanced knowledge in at least four of the following areas:
- General electric, plumbing, and carpentry
- Irrigation systems programming and service
- Concrete and asphalt paving
- Operation and service of grounds service equipment
- Athletic fields painting
- Natural turf and artificial spot turf athletic fields care
- Shrub, grass, and tree care
- General landscaping best practices and techniques
- Playground equipment
- Ability to climb a ladder and work overhead
- Ability to build scaffolding and use lift equipment properly
- Ability to lift objects in excess of fifty (50) pounds in weight
- Ability and willingness to respond to after-hours calls via landline or mobile phone and work overtime during high needs times of the year (snow removal, emergency storm damage clean-up, etc.) as directed
- The hourly wage for this position is determined based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Champaign Educational Support Professionals, which is available on our website. The District gives experienced employees up to 20 years of experience credit for service outside the District if it is directly related to their position. 100% of an employee's contributions to IMRF are currently paid by the Board of Education. The Board also pays 100% of employee-only health, vision, and term life insurance. Dental is also available at competitive rates to interested employees. There are opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation during the regular school year and in the summer.

- The hours worked may fluctuate during the initial training period before transitioning to a set schedule. This will be discussed further during the interview process.
