Excellent opportunity to gain hands-on leadership experience working with the Crystal Farmers Market and community events. This position will serve as the on-site lead for select events and assist with planning and operations for others throughout the season.
At the Farmers Market, this position manages on-site operations, coordinates with vendors, and helps create a welcoming and engaging experience for all who attend. Support community health by connecting the community to nutritious food, improving food security, supporting local producers, and strengthening our local food economy. This role offers valuable experience working with local, state, and federal nutrition assistance programs (SNAP/EBT, Market Bucks),
In addition to market operations, the Summer Recreation Coordinator will support community events such as Young Mudder, Trick or Trot, Oktoberfest luncheon. The coordinator will work closely with the Recreation Manager and Recreation Supervisors to develop special events that make a direct impact on the health, wellness, and connectedness of the Crystal community.
HOURS OF WORK: Tuesdays 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. Various, daytime, evening and weekend hours. Up to 20 hours a week.- Manage on-site Crystal Farmers Market operations.
- Coordinate the logistics of Set up/take down of Crystal Farmer’s Market and special events.
- Operate informational booth for SNAP/EBT transactions, customer questions, nutrition incentive materials, POS system.
- Maintain accurate financial procedures (transactions, cash flow, fee collection, sales, EBT terminal). Document and report weekly financial and market data for various reports.
- Generate weekly social media and newsletter content to promote the Crystal Farmers Market and community events.
- Uphold market standards for vendors and customers (including food safety, rules and regulations, etc.).
- Communicate respectfully and transparently with market customers and vendors, and resolve any disputes that arise between and among market constituents.
- Assists in connecting underserved populations including communities of color, seniors and families with young children to the Farmers Market and Special Events through culturally relevant marketing channels and attend community events/meetings to promote and develop support for Crystal Farmers Market, and municipal recreation programs and events.
- Evaluate and assess effectiveness of programs; prepare related reports.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment; distribute supplies and equipment; assist with ordering supplies and equipment for Crystal Farmers Market and special events.
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment and conduct business in a safe manner.
- Attend staff meetings and coordinate work schedules with other staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Excellent communication and public relations skills.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other employees.
- 6 months of experience delivering recreational activities or special events.
- Fluent in English; both spoken and written
- Valid driver's license.
- One year of college coursework in public health, recreation, event planning, human/services, community social work, volunteer management or One year of work experience in recreation, event planning, human services, community social work, volunteer management or public health.
- CPR, AED & First aid certification
- One year of marketing experience, including social media platforms in a business setting.
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, French, Somali or Oromo language(s)

Must be able to assertively control conversations in order to quickly and accurately gather pertinent information and be able to communicate this information professionally and precisely to the proper recipient. Be able to read and understand correspondence, memoranda and directives.

Technical Knowledge: Must be able to handle working with the telephone, adjusting heating, cooling and lighting within the building, and locking and unlocking assigned facility. Must acquire working knowledge of the copy machine and office procedures. Must have a high school degree orequivalent.
