Make a difference as a Lifeguard

As a new Seasonal Lifeguard at the City of Craig, you will be expected to maintain a vigilant watch over patrons in and around the pool area, ensuring their safety at all times. Daily responsibilities include monitoring swimming activities, responding promptly to emergencies, and enforcing pool rules with professionalism and empathy. You will also assist with facility maintenance, ensuring cleanliness and safety standards are met.

Your schedule will be dynamic, requiring flexibility to accommodate weekend, evening, and holiday shifts. This varied schedule ensures that you gain diverse experience while being an integral part of our team. You can expect to work collaboratively with fellow lifeguards, participating in regular training sessions to enhance your skills and knowledge of safety procedures.

To be successful as a Seasonal Lifeguard at the City of Craig, a combination of essential skills and abilities is crucial. Candidates should possess strong swimming skills and a solid understanding of facility rules, emergency procedures, and rescue protocols.   • Monitor pool areas to ensure patron safety and prevent accidents.
  • Enforce facility rules policies and safety regulations.
  • Perform rescues and provide first aid/CPR as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe aquatic environment including decks and equipment.
  • Assist with program setup and breakdown.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons of all ages.
  • Participate in staff training and emergency drills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of facility rules, emergency procedures, and rescue protocols.
  • Strong swimming skills with the ability to remain calm and decisive in emergencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff, participants, and the public.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow instructions.

Required Education, Training, Experience, Certification/Licensure, Other:

No prior work experience is required for this position. Applicants must hold current American Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR certifications, or be able to obtain them by June 1 of the year hired, with training available if needed. Equivalent certifications recognized by the State of Colorado will also be accepted. Candidates must be at least 15 years of age and must successfully pass a post-job offer drug screening, and anyone over 18 must successfully pass a post-offer background check.
