Job Summary

This position supports the Distribution Design organization and is responsible for design and inspection of the Electrical Distribution System. Responsibilities include field work, drawing, estimating, and designing for electrical system line extensions, improvements, and maintenance for new and existing facilities.

Staking Technician II (GPS 22)

At least 5 years of Staking Tech or Line Design experience

Other trainings, skills and abilities as defined by the Electric Director

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

Communicate with developers, builders, inspectors, and contractors to determine power needs.

Determine and design distribution line extension according to customer needs.

Communicate and organize to effectively coordinate multiple projects to meet customer expectations.

Recognize system operation needs and determine remedy or improvement action.

Maintain Integrated Transmission System (ITS) Level II certification including SCADA operation.

Write and perform switching operations on main power lines during emergency and non-emergency situations.

Coordinates other utility joint construction, installation, and transfers.

Determine system protection coordination needs and appropriate solution.

Creates cost estimates and invoice for customers

Creates material list and assess inventory availability with Inventory and Purchasing Tech

Creates and manages Ga 811 locate tickets

Interaction with internal and external customers.

Required to be available after hours for trouble response.

Working knowledge of all National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) work and safety practices

Able to read and interpret prints for installation of electric utility projects

Prepares job sites for construction by flagging/staking in accordance with job prints

Responds to customer complaints and services requests.

Serves as a member of various employee committees.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

High School Diploma

B.S. Engineering Technology and/or Associate Engineering

Combination of education and experience of Five (5) years in Electric Distribution Operations.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Thorough knowledge and skill in the use of methods, materials, and tools used in medium voltage distribution construction and maintenance;

Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade;

Knowledge of electrical metering and components, electrical and house wiring.

Considerable knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electrical distribution design methods and practices and ability to apply this knowledge to work situations.

Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment;

Skill in the application of first aid methods including artificial respiration.

Ability to read, understand and interpret technical complex oral and written instructions

Ability to work under varying weather conditions

Ability to design various types of lighting projects.

Knowledge of computer programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, AutoCAD, GIS

Has the ability to distinguish shades of color

Special Requirements

Valid State Drivers License.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED

Personal computer, including word processing, spreadsheet, and other specialty software; calculator; phone; radio; fax and copy machine; motorized vehicles and equipment including pickup; other light and medium duty trucks and automobiles; wire cutters; heat sensors; electrical testing equipment; various meters; hot sticks; clamp sticks; generator; chain saw; line tracer; and various hand tools.
