GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Aquatic Program Specialist, the position is responsible to provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation for swim team participants and attends swim meets and team functions throughout the year.  Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and clean environment for swim team participants.   

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist head coach in creating age appropriate workouts focusing on technique, endurance, stroke development, drills, etc.
  • Lead structured practices as assigned.
  • Maintain records of work-outs and track daily attendance.
  • Assist head coach with administrative matters relating to the team, swim meets, and team performance.
  • Assist in coordinating and executing swim team competitors and meet registrations.  
  • Ensures the recording of times at swim meets.
  • Attend swim team events such as meets, meetings, social events, etc.  Assist in swim team social event planning as necessary.
  • Responds as needed to telephone and email inquiries regarding swim team activities.  
  • Engage parents and cultivate relationships to create a collaborative swim team environment.  
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and clean environment for swim team participants by assisting with the daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility and equipment.  
  • Assist Aquatic Program Specialist with additional aquatic operations as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Completion of high school diploma or general equivalency, supplemented by 2 years or more of progressively responsible experience with a swim team or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.  Must be a member of the American Swim Coach Association (ASCA), USA Swimming,  Level 1 Certification from ASCA, and  American Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches Certification (Certification includes American Red Cross First Aid and Adult/Child CPR- AED;  American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification).  Employment continuation is contingent upon certification/re-certification by a nationally recognized organizations approved by the City.   Must be able to work various shifts.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work in outdoor conditions with exposure to a variety of disagreeable environmental factors, e.g., solar radiation, adverse weather, heat, humidity, soil/dirt, toxic/chemical agents. Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10 to 40 pounds).  Tasks require mobility to lead groups in activities such as bending, lifting, carrying, swimming, kneeling, and climbing.  Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
