JOB SUMMARY:
Employees in this class are under general supervision of the Wastewater Plant Superintendent. Work includes performing or supervising preventive maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment at the wastewater treatment plant.
Examples of work performed: Plans and directs the work of the maintenance technician and performs work related to the maintenance and repair of all types of pumps, values, electric motors, gear drives and other machinery; maintains flow meters and other measuring devices at the wastewater plant; keeps inventory of parts; keeps up-to-date on supplies and costs and makes recommendations on their purchase to the Superintendent; works to keep down-time to a minimum; responsible for computerized maintenance program on all equipment and preparing maintenance schedules; performs related work as required .
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in maintaining and repairing wastewater treatment plant equipment
Knowledge of flow meters and other electronic operational control devices
Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions at a wastewater treatment facility
Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others
Ability to operate a variety of light and heavy equipment
Ability to operate welders, torches, drills, saws, and other maintenance equipment
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications, including shop drawings
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public and co-workers
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent is required, along with at least five years of experience in a maintenance-related field that includes substantial electronics work. Candidates must hold a valid Tennessee driver's license at the time of hire and obtain a Commercial Driver License within six (6) months of their start date.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience in a lead or supervisory capacity preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical:
Must be able to perform occasional lifting of equipment or materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Must have good hand-eye coordination in working with tools and equipment. Must be able to perform all typical work site tasks, which involves bending, twisting, crawling, lifting objects above shoulder level and working in all weather conditions in potentially hazardous environments. Access to some equipment is precarious. Must be able to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public. Subject to on-call duty.
Environmental:
Employee will be exposed to biological and chemical hazards through contact with raw sewage, methane gas, hydrogen sulfide, chlorine gas, and ultraviolet light. Will work with active electrical circuits, and other machinery hazards. Employee is regularly exposed to such conditions as dirt, oil, grease, raw sewage, noise and temperature extremes.
