JOB SUMMARY:
Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work is performed under supervision of Maintenance Superintendent in executing specific tasks of a skilled nature, which involves some advanced training and/or experience.
Examples of work performed: Installs or repairs all types of plumbing fixtures; installs or repairs electrical outlets, lighting fixtures, dimmers, motors, and other electrical and motorized equipment; performs a variety of carpentry tasks; has working knowledge of masonry skills and lays brick and block as assigned; makes basic and general repairs to vehicles and equipment as assigned; may operate light and heavy equipment including backhoes, dump trucks and loaders; assists with departmental special events; performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in plumbing, carpentry and electrical repair; and engine and motor maintenance and repair
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Knowledge of tools and equipment used to perform above tasks
Ability to follow oral and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
Ability to read and understand plumbing blueprints
Ability to operate light and heavy vehicles and equipment
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers and the public
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school education or equivalent is required. Experience required in maintenance work involving knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, masonry and electrical work. Must possess a valid TN driver's license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical:
Job requires good hand/eye coordination and dexterity while using tools and operating equipment. Work involves frequent lifting of heavy materials up to 100 pounds, stooping, crouching, climbing and other types of physical exertion. Work involves use of dangerous power tools. This position is subject to paid on-call duty and paid emergency calls after hours and weekends.

Work may require performing duties in inclement weather.
