Water Crew Supervisor – Stormwater

The purpose of this position is to oversee projects and/or actions related to the City’s stormwater systems and to provide supervision, oversight and guidance to stormwater staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervises staff by prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
• Ensures all equipment is properly maintained by staff and that all safety procedures are followed.
• Ensures proper functions of the City’s stormwater systems by responding to any issues.
• Prepares and/or completes work orders and service requests.

Supplemental Functions:

• Performs other similar duties as required.

Job Specifications and Qualifications:

Knowledge:

• Landscaping;
• Stormwater repair, maintenance, and operations;
• Operating heavy equipment and hand and power tools;
• Applicable local, state and federal laws, rules, and regulations;
• Budgetary principles.

Licensing and Certifications:

• Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License

Positions assigned to Wastewater Maintenance:

• Positions in this class require: Standing, fine dexterity, walking, lifting, carrying, sitting, reaching, handling, kneeling, crawling, pushing/pulling, climbing, vision, foot controls, balancing, bending, crouching, hearing, twisting, talking.

• Heavy Work: Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 25 -50 pounds frequently, or from 10 up to 20 pounds constantly.

• Incumbents may be subjected to extreme temperature, wetness and/or humidity, respiratory fumes, noise and vibration, physical hazards.

• Supervisory principles;
• Reading and interpreting data;
• Managing construction and maintenance projects;
• Performing basic mathematical calculations;
• Prioritizing and assigning work;

• Operating a computer and applicable software applications;

High school diploma or equivalency, with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in Water Resources and demonstrated leadership experience in the form of Supervisor, Team Lead or Crew Leader; or the City may consider an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
