The purpose of the job is to assist budget staff in the preparation of both the preliminary and final budget documents. The role also involves supporting accounting staff with the review and preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report and quarterly financial statements. Responsibilities may include making adjusting journal entries, implementing Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) updates, and performing software mapping to ensure financial accuracy and compliance with applicable standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. - Assists in preparing preliminary and final budget documents.
- Reviews departmental submissions to ensure accuracy and alignment with budget priorities, the strategic plan, and the Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP) goals.
- Identifies and recommends alternative funding for overspent accounts.
- Assists in the preparation and review of the Annual Financial Comprehensive Report.
- Reviews financial statements and footnotes for compliance, balancing and accuracy.
- Enters journal entries to the general ledger.
- Assists with the review and implementation of new Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards.
- Assists in the preparing quarterly financial statements.
- Assists in updating and maintaining accounting software.
- Prepares various monthly, quarterly, annual and ad-hoc reports and financial analyses.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or related field.
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in finance, budgeting, accounting or related field.
Licenses or Certifications
- None.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position
Knowledge of:
- Governmental accounting and financial statements.
- Basic financial operations, accounting requirements and financial terminology.
- General office practices and administrative procedures, records management and administration techniques and procedures.
- Common business software applications and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

- Typing and/or data entry with minimal errors.
- Communicating verbally and in writing to meet the needs of the audience.
- Collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex and/or technical data.
- Utilizing financial analysis software and databases.
- Using complex formulas, macros and data manipulation.
- Preparing and presenting financial reports and documents.
