The purpose of this job is to perform skilled maintenance and repair of City-owned compactors and containers, place, repair and maintain solid waste compactors and containers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities - The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. - Repairs and maintains solid waste compactors and containers.
- Sets and removes commercial front- and rear-load trash containers.
- Delivers, installs, and removes compactors.
- Diagnoses mechanical defects and repairs compactors
- Fabricates or rebuilds components.
- Assists refuse collectors by operating front loader, roll-off and rear loader refuse trucks as needed.
- Ensures safety procedures are followed.
- Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience - An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent. Mechanical or trade school certificate preferred.
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in welding and fabrication.
Licenses or Certifications
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no airbrake restriction.
Department of Transportation (DOT) medical certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities which may be representative, but not all-inclusive of those commonly associated with this position

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS :
- Positions assigned to the City Utilities Department that work on-call are required to maintain a telephone and permanent residence within 50 road miles of City Hall, 701 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO, within 90 days of hire.
